If you are an experienced lead climber and wish to lead climb/lead belay at Fergs, you will have to book and pass an assessment with us. Do note that climbing gear (including quickdraws) will not be provided for your assessment.

What we assess:

• Knot tying

• Harness fitting

• Buddy checks

• Clipping technique

• Falling technique

• Lead belaying technique (including catching lead falls)

• Communication on the wall

• Knowledge of lead climbing hazards and risks

 

What you need to bring:

• Comfortable clothing appropriate for climbing in.

• Enclosed shoes (for when you are not climbing)

• All your own climbing equipment (rope, carabiners, belay device, quick-draws, harness, climbing shoes)

• A climbing partner (who can lead climb and lead belay)
