Intro to Lead

$160, 3 x 2-hour sessions

Intro to Lead is a course designed for climbers with some climbing experience and would like to learn how to lead climb. This safety-centric course covers the essential skills required for indoor sport lead climbing.

This course is run over 3 lessons of 2 hours each, with a qualified instructor. We typically conduct the lesson over 3 weekday evenings, from 6 pm to 8 pm.

If you are wanting to do the Intro to Lead course, but the aforementioned days/times don’t work for you, please get in touch as different booking options are available.

​All necessary equipment is provided.

​

You should be able to comfortably climb a grade 17 on top-rope before signing up for the course.

​

What the course covers:

  • Communication on the wall

  • Rope management

  • Knot-tying

  • Top-rope belaying with an ATC

  • Lead belaying with an ATC

  • Clipping techniques

  • Falling techniques

  • Hazard identification & mitigation

 

What you need to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing appropriate for climbing in.

  • Enclosed shoes (for when you aren’t climbing)

  • We recommend bringing a water bottle as you will be doing a lot of climbing.

  • If you have your own harness, climbing shoes, chalk bag feel free to bring these along. However if you do not have your own, these will be provided.

Cancellations:

  • ​Intro to Lead courses require a minimum of 2 participants to run. Therefore if there are not enough people booked into the course, it will be postponed.

  • If you are unable to attend the course and would need to cancel, cancellations fees will incur based on the following schedule:

    • More than 7 days before the course starts: No cancellation fee​

    • Cancellation between 6 to 3 days before the course starts: 50% of the course fee

    • Cancellation less than 48 hours before the course starts: 100% of the course fee
