Fergs Kayaks was born from the huge success Ian Ferguson achieved as a gold-winning Olympic athlete. 

 

Ian Ferguson is New Zealand’s top Olympic athlete. Having won four Olympic gold medals, one silver, numerous world titles and has competed at the games in Montreal (1976), Moscow (1980), Los Angeles (1984), Seoul (1988) and Barcelona (1992), he is one of our most decorated and experienced sports people. In 1996 he was awarded Olympian of the Century by the New Zealand Olympic Association.

 

Fergs Wellington became a reality when Ian Ferguson decided to make the whole sport of kayaking more accessible to the public. Ian’s credentials are impressive but it’s his commitment, effort and enthusiasm for the sport that translates into the fun and adventure you can have here.

 

Fergs Kayaks was set up in Shed Six on Wellington’s Waterfront in 1997; providing kayak hire on this beautiful harbour, inline skate hire on the waterfront and a rock climbing + bouldering gym.
